Today's Headline: US Financially Suffering (Still Better than You)
An Article from NYT describes the "struggle" of the Hip NY set making ends meet in the midst of today's financial woes. The quote that set me off? This caption (for the picture enclosed):
Noah Driscoll, 25: He has five roommates and cooks most of his meals, but splurges on hair care.
Further on in the article:
Grooming presents its own challenges. Mr. Naddeo cuts his own hair with an electric razor and wears hand-me-down clothes from friends. Mr. Driscoll has curly hair that he says requires specific products and "some taming."
"I wouldn't go just anywhere" for a cut, Mr. Driscoll said. "Not to sound metro, but I like my hair."
We can tell.
In this CNNMoney Article (Cnn.com - how could you?) This "poor strapped" family - the father is an engineer - is having to go to extreme measures like (Gasp!) cancel their annual family trip to Maine and cut off jeans to make shorts (Pants that becomes shorts....Ingenious!)
Look people. I know life isn't as good as it was 10 years ago. The stock market is down, growth is slow, and prices are up. But I draw the line when people are griping about having to do things most people have been doing since the Clinton Administration
And as for the dude who really really likes his hair?
You can still buy a bottle of Suave for under $2.
A Morning Dose of Feminism
I tend to scoff at modern "feminists", often imagining those who wear "bootylicious" on the butt of their pants, belch, then giggle over it. The "new breed" of masculinized and aggressively promiscuous women worry me because they believe (or use the excuse) that they are being more independent and will be respected. Likewise I worry for their likelihood that they will become role models to the next generation. Is this the future of feminism?
I don't think so. Why can't this be on tv rather than Britney?
