Magic Items in 3.X D&D

Magic Items

entryImageI'm not sure about you, but I've never quite liked the magic item dependency in the latest incarnation of the D&D game. I love finding them as a player, but as a DM I never seem to give out enough to keep up with "expected" player wealth and item values. Also, if a player wants to use an "ancestral" weapon or to stick with a single weapon the whole game, you are better off giving out gold instead of items, since that player will just have to sell it off toget his preferred weapon enchanted.

Bats's Gravatar So far as I've found, the magic item vs. gold problem in DND is really something you should discuss with your players and see what they are interested in receiving. That is just my personal experience.

Bats's Gravatar I really like the enchanting scrolls and like you said as long as you could regulate the number you hand out to the players it would be a great system. The disenchanting ability I think would be good as a skill for certain players (i.e. wizard, cleric, sorcerer, etc.) You could also make toosl that would be required to "store" the magical property for later or make them null and void if you are going to transfer the property immediately. Maybe the skill base is just from my WoW playing days lol....not for sure though.
